Janet Yellen commenced her professional journey as an assistant professor at Harvard University. Subsequently, she held notable positions at the London School of Economics and the University of California, Berkeley.

Federal Reserve:

Yellen enjoyed a distinguished and extensive tenure in various roles within the Federal Reserve System. Notably, she served as a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System from 1994 to 1997. Furthermore, Yellen held the position of President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco from 2004 to 2010. On January 22, 2021, the Senate Finance Committee unanimously endorsed Yellen’s nomination with a 26–0 vote. Subsequently, on January 25, the entire U.S. Senate confirmed her appointment with a decisive vote of 84–15, including one abstention from Marco Rubio, R-FL. Vice President Harris administered the oath of office the following day, marking Yellen’s historic inauguration as the first female Secretary of the Treasury. Notably, she achieved the unprecedented distinction of leading the U.S. federal government’s three most influential economic bodies—the Treasury Department, the Federal Reserve, and the White House Council of Economic Advisers.
