Indian heritage. She achieved historic milestones as the first female, first African American, and first Indian American vice president of the United States.

Harris graduated in political science and economics from Howard University in 1986 and obtained her Juris Doctor from the University of California, Hastings, in 1989. Beginning her career in the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, she became the District Attorney of San Francisco in 2004, marking several firsts as a woman of African American and Indian American descent.

In 2010, Harris furthered her career by becoming California’s Attorney General. In 2016, she was elected to the U.S. Senate, representing California and making history again as the second African American woman and the first Indian American woman in the Senate.

In the 2020 presidential election, Kamala Harris was elected Vice President on the Democratic ticket alongside President Joe Biden. In this role, she addresses crucial issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic, voting rights, immigration, and climate change. As Vice President, Kamala Harris has collaborated closely with President Joe Biden to advance crucial initiatives in the United States. Their joint efforts have been instrumental in achieving widespread vaccination, revitalizing the economy, alleviating child poverty, and enacting an infrastructure law designed to uplift marginalized communities. Harris has led in building extensive coalitions to safeguard voting rights, enhance workers’ ability to organize and bargain collectively, and champion women’s rights.
